Computers and New Media

WHY TAKE THIS CLASS

I'm interested in what ways the technology around us impacts us and enables us to communicate and achieve our goals. Computer technology plays a significant role in media generation and distribution and as both a producer and consumer of such media, I look forward to learn how to effectively use the tools available today at our disposal.

  • Television

    • Live Sports - Watch NASCAR, Football, and Basketball on networks such as ESPN, FOX Sports 1, NBC Sports Network

    • News and current events - Occasionally watch local and world news on networks such as ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc...

    • Recorded and Produced - Less frequent, but enjoy trivia based gameshows, action, comedy, and crime genre shows.

  • Internet Video

    • YouTube - I consume many hours of online video content ranging from entertainment to information. Categories include but not limited to:

      • Technology content from channels such as MKBHD and Linus Tech Tips

      • Informative channels such as Vsauce, CGP Grey, SmarterEveryDay, MinutePhysics

      • Entertainment videos such as stand up comedy, social experiments / pranks, viral videos

      • Automotive content, motorsports, and simulation racing

    • YouTube (Content Creator) - I edit and produce videos of my hobby (sim racing)

      • My channel, Leuel48Fan, includes gaming and real life highlights and compilations of NASCAR races and iRacing simulation races I competitively participate in.

  • Email

    • Use email to communicate with subjects ranging from personal to academic and professional entities.

  • Social Media

    • Twitter - Keep up with current trends and events amongst friends and the general public

    • Snapchat - Keep up and share with friends of trivial day-to-day activities

    • Reddit - Keep up with current events, learn about and discuss a wide range of topics with generally anonymous others that share similar specific interests

  • Gaming

    • iRacing - Competitive motorsports simulation service that allows fans and enthusiasts to get a taste of professional auto racing without spending the fortune required to race in the real world. Occasionally meet and race with (virtually) professional drivers that use service as a training tool.

    • BeamNG.Drive - Open sandbox driving soft body physics game that accurately models dynamics and deformation of vehicles for recreational play.
